An unusual French Crystal Regulator inlaid with champleve. CCC-75.

This is a beautiful and fancy French Crystal Regulator. It was made in France circa 1890.

The structure of this case is framed in brass. Many of the brass surfaces are decorated with champleve inlay. The primary color of this complex design is a light ocean blue. The four feet, base, and top molding are cast brass. These areas are decorated with designs that include egg-and-dart and flowers. The front corners are fitted with shaped columns. An urn is mounted at the top of the case. There are four separate shaped glass panels. Two of these function as access doors. The front door opens to allow one access to the dial. The back door allows one access to the pendulum and the French-made movement.

The dial is brass and features painted Roman-style hour numerals. The center field is decoratively engraved. The Maker, Le ROY, signs this clock in this location." The Berguet-style hands are steel and finely made. The dial is framed with a ring of brilliants.

The French-made movement has two note-worthy die-stamps on the back plate. The first is a banner that reads, "MADE IN FRANCE." The second is the "MEDAILLE D'ARGENT' die-stamp. The works are brass and of excellent quality. It is designed to run eight full days and strike each hour on a wire gong mounted inside the case. This clock will also strike once at each half hour. The pendulum hangs from the back of the movement. It is also decorated with a ring of brilliants that frame a floral insert. The motion of this pendulum can be seen from all sides of the case.

This example measures 15.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide, and 5 inches deep.
