Ansonia Clock Co. The REGULATOR A. Long drop school clock. A wall clock. 220010.

This is the “Regulator A.” It was made by the Ansonia Clock Company of Brooklyn, New York. These clocks are commonly called “School House” clocks because they were often used in school rooms across the country. This Ansonia version was very well made and marketed to smaller offices. It sold very well.

This is a nice clean example. The case is constructed black walnut and retains a modern finish. This model was also offered in ash. The ash version is not as desirable because it is a lower quality wood. The color of this walnut case is on the lighter side and is quite pleasing. The wooden bezel is well formed and has a bit of style incorporated into the design. This molding is fancier than many of the moldings featured on Ansonia’s competitor’s clocks. A brass bezel frames the dial. This is fitted with glass. The paper dial measures 12 inches in diameter and is applied on a tin pan. It features large Roman style hour numerals. The minute ring is closed. The Maker’s trademark is printed below the center arbor. This dial is also decorated with an interior or inner brass trim ring. This is a decorative detail. The time only movement is spring wound and is designed to run eight-days on a full wind. The pendulum bob is supported by a wooden rod and the bob is covered in brass. This can be viewed through the glass in the lower door located on the front of the case. This glass retains its original decal that reads, “REGULATOR / A.” This is in good original condition. Behind the pendulum, the backboard of the case is painted black. This contrasts nicely against the brass faced bob. The Clockmaker’s label is also pasted to the backboard behind the pendulum. It is a blue/black label with gold caligrafie. It lists the company name and location. This is also in good original condition.

This walnut cased clock was made circa 1910. This clock measures approximately 32 inches long. It is inventory number 220010.
