An unusually large French Crystal Regulator. -SOLD-
This is an impressive French Crystal Regulator due to its large size. The case measures approximately 16.5 inches tall, 10.5 inches wide and is 7.5 inches deep. This clock was made circa 1890.
The case is framed in brass. These surfaces have been highly polished and protected with a lacquer finish. There are four separate glass panels which make up the four sides of the case. Each is trimmed with beveled edges and mounted in brass frames. There are two access doors. One at the back in order to access the pendulum. The second is at the front of the case allowing one access to the dial. The dial, featuring a gold tone. is trimmed with a decorative French sash. The time ring is brass and the Arabic hour numerals are painted onto the front surface in their individual cartouches. The time ring surface is somewhat canted in towards the center section is stepped down from the time ring. Attached to this is the winding arbor grommets and the visible escapement. The hands are steel and decoratively designed. The movement is brass construction and very good quality. The back plate bears the S. Marti et Cie die stamp. It is designed to run eight full days and strike each hour on a wire gong mounted inside the case. The large two vial pendulum hangs from the back of the movement. The motion of this pendulum can be seen from all the sides of the case.
