Ansonia Clock Co. 8-Inch Drop Octagon in oak. Wall clock. 219139.

The Ansonia Clock Company of Brooklyn, New York, made this Drop Octagon Eight Inch wall clock. These clocks are commonly called School House clocks because they were often used in school rooms across the country. The Ansonia version was marketed to smaller offices and very well sold.

This is a nice clean example. The case is constructed in oak and features an interesting grain pattern that has been treated with a reddish finish. This model was also offered in rosewood. The color of this oak case is quite pleasing. The clock's dial is paper and measures eight inches in diameter. The paper is applied to a tin pan. It features large Roman-style hour numerals. The minute ring is closed. The Maker’s trademark is printed below the center arbor. This dial is also decorated with an interior or inner brass trim ring. This is a decorative detail. A small heat mark is located on the outside of hour number III. The time-only brass constructed movement is spring wound and is designed to run eight days on a full wind. The pendulum bob is covered in brass. It can be viewed through the opening in the painted design on the lower glass in the front of the case. Inside the case is the Clockmaker's label.

This oak-cased clock was made circa 1910. This clock measures approximately 19.5 inches long.
