Ansonia Clock Co. The "Number 2" Banjo clock. 223139.

The Banjo No. 2, a rare gem from the Ansonia Clock Company, is possibly the most coveted banjo clock. It stands out among the three models offered with high-quality glass, making it a unique addition to any collection.
All three versions are challenging to find.

This version, the number 2 is the same size as the model 3 but is offered in a time-and-strike movement format. This Number 3 version features quarter-hour striking playing the Westminster sequence on "Melodious True-Toned rods."

The mahogany case measures 40.5 inches long and retains its original surface, which has naturally darkened with age. The high-quality crystal glasses are original to this piece. The decorations are carved into the back. The deeper floral designs, located in the center and on the corners of the panels, are cut with a wheel, while the peripheral decorations are etched into the surface. Through the glass, one can see the silver-faced pendulum bob. Brass side arms are attached to the waist.

The silver-plated dial, measuring 8.25 inches in diameter, is in good condition with only light soiling. It features Arabic hour numerals and the maker's name, while the steel hands indicate the time accurately, making it a reliable timepiece.

The two-train movement, shown here before servicing, is spring-wound and designed to run eight days on a full wind. Each hour is struck on a chime rod. The sound is described in the Ansonia 1924 catalog as "Melodious."

Case dimensions: 40.5 inches long, 12 inches wide.
