Dwarf tall clock. Bench made.

This is a very impressive looking dwarf clock. This case is constructed in figured mahogany and is line inlaid incorporating quarter fans inlaid urns. This high quality cabinetry and it's case design was obviously copied from case constructed in Boston circa 1800. This Bench made example may be 50 plus years old.

This charming example stands up on applied ogee bracket feet. The base features beautifully figured veneer. The string inlay forms a frame that features quarter fans in each of the corners. In the center of this base is a medallion that features an urn. This pattern is repeated in the waist door. The door is trimmed with a molded edge and opens to access the interior of the case. Fluted quarter columns flank the sides of the case and terminate at each end in brass quarter capitals. The bonnet is fitted with a traditional New England style fret. The fret work is support by three fluted chimney or final plinths that are capped at the top. These support the three brass urn shaped finials. Fully turned and fluted bonnet columns or colonnettes visually support the upper bonnet molding. They are mounted in brass capitals and are free standing. Nicely turned quarter columns are set into the back of the bonnet. These are smoothly shaped. The sides of the hood are fitted with tombstone shaped side lights and they are fitted with glass. The arched bonnet line inlaid door is also fitted with glass and opens to access the painted dial which is not signed.

This painted arched dial features floral patterns in the four spandrel areas as well as in the arch of the dial. The time track has the hours indicated in Roman numerals.

The movement was constructed by the Chelsea Clock Company of Chelsea, Massachusetts. It was most likely made to fit into a wall clock. It has been repurposed and adapted to this dial and case. This was a common practice for wood workers who took on projects like this. The movement is in brass and designed to run eight-days on a wind. It is a time only format and is of fine quality.

This clock stands a approximately 47.5 inches tall and was made circa 1930.
