E. Ingraham Bristol, Connecticut. "Corrugated-12" Gallery Clock. 222023.

This very unusual-shaped cased gallery clock was made by the E. Ingraham Clock Company of Bristol, Connecticut. This form or model is called the corrugated gallery. The Ingraham catalogs suggest that this form was in production for approximately 12 years. These dates include 1870 through 1882. They additionally offered it in six dial sizes that ranged from a 10-inches in diameter up to 24-inches. The business model of offering various sizes of a particular gallery clock form was a common practice for the Ingraham Company.

If you like interesting shapes and depth, this case form may be for you? The wood used in the construction of the case is chestnut and it has been refinished. The natural slashed grain pattern shows clearly through the shellac. The case measures approximately 18.75 inches across the back and is 4.25 inches deep. Please note that the modified circular design narrows as it steps out from the wall. The case is constructed in two sections. The outer section is the door or dial bezel. The molding profile here is a little sharper than the profiles of the main case. The door is hinged and fitted with clear glass. The paper dial measures 12 inches in diameter and features an 11-inch time ring. The dial pan is trimmed with a brass multi-stepped sash. The hours are marked with Roman-style numerals. This dial is original to the clock and is in very good original condition. Behind the dial is the spring-driven time-only movement. It is constructed in brass. The front plate is die-stamped by the Manufacturer. It is designed to run for eight days when the spring is fully wound. These movements are good quality. The pendulum is mounted above the movement at the top of the backboard. This was done to increase the pendulum length. This backboard is also the location for the Manufacturer's label. This label is in very good original condition and is pasted behind the clock works.

This hard to find model was made circa 1875 and is dated by the label. It originally sold for $10.00.
