English Skeleton Clock. Lion base. RR-20.
This Skeleton clock is finely made. The plates are a Gothic design. These are mounted to a base with large pedestals supporting the cast decorative lions. The framing supports the time-only brass movement, which is fusee powered. It is designed to run for eight days on a full wind. The movement is exposed, allowing one to view the internal workings. It features an anchor escapement and heavy brass bob. The brass dial is decoratively designed and features Roman hour numerals. It has been treated with the traditional silver wash, contrasting with the time ring. The clock sits on an oval wooden base or platform. This has a second level that is covered in maroon felt. This clock retains its original glass dome. The glass dome is very difficult to photograph. It casts many reflections into the lens of the camera. This clock is approximately 18 inches tall to the top of the dome, 14 inches wide at the base, and 7 inches deep. This clock was made circa 1880.
