French Crystal Regulator. Six columns. SS-133.
This is a beautiful French Crystal Regulator made circa 1900. The case is framed in brass. These surfaces have been highly polished and protected with a lacquer finish. There are four separate glass panels. Two of these function as access doors. The front door opens to allow one access to the dial. The back door allows one access to the pendulum and the French-made movement. This movement features the Marti stamp. Additional decorative features that are incorporated in the case design are the six brass columns. They provide the vertical structure for the case. Above each of these is a brass urn finial. A pedestal at the top of the case supports a large decorative urn. Many of the surfaces found on the front of this case are decorated with an engraved treatment.
The dial is brass and features painted Arabic hour numerals. The center field is fitted with an applied cast medallion. The hands are steel and skillfully made. The bezel is decorated with a ring of rhinestones.
The movement is brass and of excellent quality. It is designed to run eight full days and strike each hour on a wire gong mounted inside the case. This clock will also strike once at the half hour. The back plate of the movement bears the die-stamped “Made in France’ and “Marti.” The circular pendulum bob hangs from the back of the movement. It incorporates a porcelain bust of a woman, and she is framed in rhinestones. The motion of this pendulum can be seen from all sides of the case.
This case measures approximately 14.75 inches tall, 9.25 inches wide, and 6 inches deep.
