A French made mantel clock in the form of a gothic tower.

This is an attractive black mantel clock. The case is constructed in Belgian black slate. (The trade refers to this case as being made of black marble.) The case stands up on cast brass pad feet that are applied to the base. The base I well formed. It is slightly tapered. From this point to the top, the lines of the clock become vertical. The case is decorated with fluted moldings carved slated details incised brick work. Gothic style finials and a gallery top. The dial is trimmed in a French brass sash. The bezel is fitted with glass that features a beveled outside edge. Behind this glass is an attractive dial that features Roman hour numerals that are displayed in a tumbled format. The brass constructed, key wound movement was made in France and is very good quality. It is designed to run eight days on a full wind, strike each hour on the hour on a bell and to strike once on each half hour.

This example measures 24.55 inches high, 8 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep. This clock was made circa 1890.
