A French-made Oval-shaped Crystal Regulator mantel clock. 223212.

This very attractive Crystal Regulator was made in France circa 1890. Its oval-shaped brass case features four beveled glass side panels and applied cast brass decorations. The brass has been recently polished and protected with a lacquer finish.

The Marti-made movement is made of brass and is of excellent quality. It is spring-powered and designed to run for eight days once fully wound. It will also strike each hour and half hour on a wire gong mounted behind the movement. The pendulum is the traditional format of two glass vials supported in a brass frame. The backplate of the movement is stamped, "MADE IN FRANCE." It also has the 1889 Marti stamp.

Samuel Marti became one of France's most prolific movement manufacturers. His firms supplied clockmakers worldwide.

The ivory-colored porcelain dial is colorfully decorated with a painted floral wreath. Roman-style hour numerals are positioned on a segmented minute track. Decoratively designed brass hands indicate the time. The dial is set into a decorative brass bezel.

This case is 10.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide, and 6.25 inches deep.
