This is a French-made oversized crystal regulator mantel clock. Samuel Marti Movement. 218109.
This is a unique, large French-made Crystal Regulator clock. The case, constructed in the traditional format, is built on a larger scale, measuring approximately 16 inches tall, 9.75 inches wide, and 6.75 inches deep. The standard size for this form is more commonly found to be approximately 12 inches tall. These four extra inches in height make this an impressive-looking clock. The porcelain dial, measuring approximately 5.75 in diameter, features Arabic hour numerals, which is also oversized for the form.
This unusual mantel clock was made in France sometime around 1890. The quality is outstanding. The case is constructed in brass and is in excellent condition. The case design features a polished brass frame. Beveled glass panels are fitted into the four sides of the case. The time is indicated by fancy gilt-pierced hands placed over the porcelain dial. Please note the special features such as the colorful floral ring and the blue Arabic hour numerals. The spring-powered movement, stamped by Samuel Marti, is designed to run eight days on a full wind. It will also strike each hour on a wire gong mounted inside the case.
