A French-made oversized crystal regulator mantel clock with a Samuel Marti movement. 218109.
This unique French-made Crystal Regulator clock stands out for its size. The case follows the traditional style but is larger than usual, measuring about 16 inches tall, 9.75 inches wide, and 6.75 inches deep. Most clocks of this type are around 12 inches tall, so the extra height gives it a striking presence. The porcelain dial is also oversized at about 5.75 inches in diameter and features large Arabic hour numerals.
This mantel clock was made in France around 1890 and is of outstanding quality. The brass case is in excellent condition and features a polished frame with beveled glass panels on all four sides. The time is shown by decorative gilt-pierced hands over a porcelain dial. Notable details include a colorful floral ring and blue Arabic hour numerals. The spring-powered movement, marked by Samuel Marti, runs for eight days on a full wind and strikes each hour on a wire gong inside the case.
