This very colorful example remains in outstanding original condition. The case is constructed in mahogany and stands on four turned feet. The front two are embellished with a spiral carved design. Large quarter-columns are fitted into the front corners of the case. These terminate with turned quarter capitals. They are ebonized and decorated with gilt stenciled designs. This decorative treatment can also be found on the crest, which includes the two plinths and the splat. Depicted on the splat is a compote filled with fruit. This decoration is in excellent original condition. The lower section of the door features a decorative painted tablet. This tablet is original to this clock and is in excellent original condition. The colors remain vibrant. The scene is framed with a stenciled border. The painted wooden dial features floral themes in the four spandrel areas. Raised gesso work highlighted in gilt paint frames several decorative elements. The paper label applied to the inside of the case signed "Henry Judd, Torrington, Conn." This label is in very good condition.
This clock is fitted with a Torrington-type 30-hour wooden works movement. The gearing is laid out horizontally. The clock is designed to strike each hour on an iron bell. This is all powered by two iron weights.
The case measures approximately 29.5 inches tall, 16.5 inches wide, and 6 inches deep.
