A miniature French made tall case clock. Tortoiseshell veneered case. 213067.
The case is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, constructed of wood and adorned with red shell veneer in the tortoiseshell style. The decorative base patterns are meticulously inlaid into the surfaces, enhancing its visual appeal. The moldings and the forward edges are adorned with applied ormolu accents, forming the feet and frets. The case is designed in a classic French form, with long sweeping lines that give it a unique, non-traditional Anglo feel.
The colorful porcelain dial features black Arabic numerals and polychrome floral accents. Embossed brass hands read the time in the style of Louis XVI. This dial is protected by a convex piece of glass mounted in a brass bezel.
The French-made movement features circular plates. It is signed with a die-stamp by the Maker. The stamp is the "Vincenti 1855 Medaille d'Argent, Paris" example. It is also stamped "A1." It is of excellent quality. It is spring-powered, designed to run eight days and to strike each hour. This clock strikes the hour on a bell mounted to the back of the movement. The decorative pendulum bob can be viewed in the waist of the case behind the beveled glass.
This clock, made circa 1890, is a testament to the craftsmanship of the late 19th century. It carries with it the rich history and elegance of the era, making it a valuable addition to any collection.
