A Napoleon III mantel clock by Emile Colin & Cie, Paris circa 1870. 222039.

This French gilt bronze and crystal mantle clock is raised on four feet. These are mounted to the rose-colored marble base. The brass framed clock case is fitted with beveled glass panels. Circular-shaped bezel doors provide access to the dial and the back of the clock mechanism. A marble-formed urn is positioned at the top of the case. Numerous gilt bronze fittings in the form of florals, vines, ribbons, and swags decorate the case. The circular and slightly convex-shaped porcelain dial is 4.5 inches in diameter. A brass bezel and a convex piece of glass protect it. The dial is decorated with colorful floral themes, Arabic numerals, a closed minute ring, and the Maker's signature. This reads, “ Emile Colin & Cie / Paris / 20 Rue Sevigne.” Access to wind the clock and adjust the mechanism's rate through the dial. The hour and minute hands are well-formed out of brass. They are hand-carved and engraved as well.

The spring power mechanism is designed to run for eight days on a full wind. The plates are circular shaped. The back plate is die-stamped with the Marti stamp as well as the numbers "1431," "52," and "ED." This mechanism is designed to strike the hour on the hour and once on each half hour on a bell. This mechanism is of very good quality. The pendulum features the Sun King bob.

This clock case is approximately 18 inches, 9 inches wide, and 6.5 inches deep.
