This tall case clock is constructed in wonderfully figured mahogany and mahogany veneers. The proportions and the form are typical of clocks found in New York State. This is an impressive clock.

The grain pattern selected for this case is vibrant and features a modern finish that compliments it perfectly having a lovely deep rich color. The case stands on a molding that is applied to the bottom of the case. The base panel features a crotch veneer that is framed in a cross banded format. The waist section is quite long and accentuates the proportions of this case. The center is fitted with a shaped waist door that incorporates a cross banded border. This frames a crotch veneer pattern that is laid out in a vertical format. This door is positioned above an applied Irish panel. Fully turned, in a spiral pattern, waist columns are inset and flank the waist door. They are free standing and flank the waist door. The bonnet is a swan's neck design and is nicely formed. It centers a fluted key that transitions into a finial plinth. This plinth supports one of three brass ball and spiked finials. Fully turned and reeded bonnet columns flank the arched glazed door. They are mounted in brass capitals. The door is fitted with glass and opens to a colorfully painted iron dial. This dial was painted in Boston and features urns in the four spandrel areas and a lunar calendar in the arch. The gilt decoration contrasts nicely with the deep rich coloring of the case. The dial displays hours, minutes, seconds and the month calendar in a traditional format. The movement is constructed in brass and is weight powered. It is designed to run for a duration of eight days, striking each hour on the hour. It is good quality.

This clock was made circa 1810 and stands 8 feet 2 inches tall to the top of the center finial.
