An original Standard Red Crown vintage gas station clock. 213041.
This is an original Standard Red Crown advertisement in the form of an electric clock. This was made in the 1930s for use in the various Standard Oil gas stations. It is an eye-catching advertisement for their products.
The circular shape of these clocks was not just a design choice, but a functional one. They were meant to be mounted in the circular windows found in the gable ends of the service stations, creating a unique and eye-catching display. Some of these stations, with their distinctive windows, can still be found on the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut.
This is not just a clock, but a genuine electric clock sign. It's not only electrically powered, but also illuminated, making it visible even at night. The dial is made of glass, with the graphics painted from the back, creating a unique visual effect. The colors, including red, white, silver, and blue, along with the prominently displayed Standard Oil logo and 'Standard Red Crown', make it a striking piece. The hours are marked on the perimeter of the face, and two hands indicate the time in a traditional fashion.
Case dimensions: the case is 19 inches in diameter and approximately 10 inches deep.
