This is an oversized French-made crystal regulator featuring a full calendar display. 223116.

This is a very unusual crystal regulator. The case is oversized, measuring 15.75 inches tall and inches wide. It also features a dial with a calendar display.

The case is constructed in brass. Four brass pad feet elevate it above the table surface. A broad base molding transitions to the main body of the case with an ogee molding. Four beveled glass panels form the sides. Two of these function as access doors. The front door opens to allow one access to the dial. The back door allows one access to the pendulum and the French-made movement. The side panels provide an interior view of the clock mechanism. Additional shaped moldings finish the top of the case.

The dial presentation is very unusual. It is brass and finished with a silver wash contrasting with the painted black calligraphy. The main dial is sunk or lowered from the matted surface. Roman-style hour numerals are positioned on a dashed minute ring. Each of the five-minute positions is indicated with diamonds. The hour and minute hands are cut from steel and decoratively formed. Below the main time dial are three additional dials. Each displays a calendar. From the left is the day of the week, the center is the day of the month, and on the right is the month. Individual hands track these events.

The clockwork is of excellent quality. They are constructed in brass, and hardened steel shafts support the brass gearing. Both plates are square, and the back plate is die-stamped "A1" in an oval. This spring-powered movement is designed to run for eight days and strike hourly on a wire gong inside the case. It will also strike once at the half hour.

This slightly oversized case measures approximately 17.75 inches tall, 12.75 wide and 6.75 deep.

The clock was made circa 1890.
