A satinwood inlaid mahogany cased miniature bracket clock. 221140.
So cute! This very attractive mahogany-cased bracket clock is decorated with a number of satinwood inlays. So many of which accent the shape of the domed-topped case form.
This case stands on four brass ogee bracket feet that are fitted to the bottom of the case. The broad flat-facing base molding is inlaid with a line at the top before it transitions to a shaped or cove molding. This treatment is repeated on both sides of the case. The front of the case is framed with an inlaid border and features several inlaid panels. The panels are nicely shaped. Fully turned brass columns are inset into the front corners of the case. These terminate in Doric-style capitals. The dial bezel is also brass which is fitted with a convex piece of glass. The top of the case is fitted with a brass-mounted carrying handle.
The enamel dial measures 4 inches in diameter. Dotted minutes and slashes at the five-minute markers frame the large Arabic-style hour numerals. These are presented in a tumbled fashion. The time is indicated by the black steel spade-shaped hands.
The time-only movement is designed to run for eight days on a full wind. The movement is heavy and well-made. It features a balance wheel escapement and appears to be of French origin. The quality is excellent.
This clock measures approximately 12 inches tall, with the handle in the upright position. Measured at the feet, it is 8.5 inches wide and 4 inches deep. This clock was made circa 1895.
This clock is reported to have been once owned by John Pierpont (JP) Morgan, the American financier, and banker.
