Seth Thomas. This inlaid mahogany case mantel clock is called the Florence. 221133.

This is a beautiful clock. Note the interesting form. It is very similar to the shape of a European “Balloon” clock, which the British and French successfully marketed some 75 years before this clock was manufactured. This Seth Thomas version is listed in the catalogs as the “Florence” model.

The case is veneered in mahogany and is decoratively inlaid in lighter wood. These inlaid patterns consist of thin lines, a fan, and a medallion. The case wood retains an older finish. This mantel clock is raised on four brass feet. The dial bezel is brass and is fitted with a convex piece of glass. This forms a door that opens to access the porcelain dial. The dial features Arabic-style hour markers and a dotted minute ring. The Maker’s name is also located on the dial. Because this dial is porcelain, it will never fade. Spade-shaped hands display the time. The brass spring-driven movement is designed to run for eight days on a full wind. It is good quality. It strikes the hour on each hour and once each half hour on a wire gong mounted inside the case. The movement is also signed with a die-stamp impressed into the back plate.

This clock is approximately 12.5 inches tall and was made circa 1905. This is a very good example.
