Seth Thomas. Plymouth, Connecticut. Pillar & Scroll mantel clock. It is a classic American form. 29096.
This is a good decorative example of a Pillar & Scroll shelf clock. The label, pasted on the clock, reads, "Made and sold by Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn."
The Pillar and scroll shelf clock is a classic American form. This case style is right at home on the mantels of New England homes. This is a good decorative example.
The case is constructed in mahogany and retains a historic surface. The woodwork, consisting of the feet, horns, scrollwork, and returns, are all original to this clock. Inside the case is the Clockmaker's label. This has experienced very little abuse and is in wonderful condition. The wooden geared thirty-hour movement is weight-driven and is in good order. The three brass finials are appropriate replacements. The wooden dial is colorfully painted. This dial features gilt-decorated patterns, colorful floral spandrels, and Arabic hour numerals. The lower section of the door frames a painted tablet that is cracked in the upper right corner. The subject matter, a country view of Connecticut, has been fully restored.
This clock was made circa 1825 and stands approximately 30.5 inches tall. This is a nice decorative example.
