Time, Strike, and Alarm carriage clock in a Gorged Cannelee case form is fully decorated with engravings. Made by Drocourt for the Asian market. DDD-1.
This “Gorged Cannelee” case form is fully decorated with engravings. It is a handsome example and was made circa 1880.
This clock has classic features. The four glass panels feature beveled edges. One can access the movement by opening the rear door. This clock features a well-made brass movement that is spring-powered and designed to run for eight days once fully wound. It features several options, including a full strike train with a push button hour repeat and an alarm. This clock will strike each hour on a coil gong. The repeat button is located at the top of the case. Depress this button, and it will strike the last hour. This feature was incorporated into clocks like this so that one could place them on the night table. If you were to wake from sleep in the hours of darkness, you could press this repeat button, and the clock would strike the last hour. This is more convenient than having to fumble for a match to light the nearby candle to read the dial visually. The back plate is die-stamped with the Drocourt trademark, “AIGUIELES,” and an Asian symbol. The alarm is set from the back. This clock is in good condition. The movement has been recently serviced and is in running order.
The porcelain dial presentation is unusual because it features a sweep second hand. The hour and minute hands are a Breguet-style. The time dial features a closed-minute ring. The Roman-style hour numerals are painted in place. The alarm dial is located below the time dial.
This clock measures 7.5 inches tall with the handle in the upright position.
