An unsigned Concord, New Hampshire region tall clock. The cherry case is decorated with line inlay. 217069

This nicely proportioned inlaid cherry case tall clock exhibits an excellent lighter color. The case stands on four nicely flared French feet. All four exhibit very good height. The front two transition into a simple drop apron that is formed below the front base panel. This panel is decorated with a line inlaid border on three sides. The lower line pattern is more complex and transitions across the base sides to the back of the case. This design helps delineate the base from the feet. The long rectangular waist door is also inlaid in the shape of the door. The pattern is similar to the one used in the lower section of base. The waist door is trimmed with a simple molded edge and opens to access the interior of the case. The quarter columns are fluted and terminate in brass quarter capitals. These columns are inset into the sides of the case. The bonnet is fitted a New England "Whale's tails" fret work design. The three chimneys or finials plinths are fluted and capped at the top. These help support the frets. Each is fitted with a brass ball and spiked finial. The bonnet columns are fluted and are mounted in brass capitals. These flank the arched bonnet door which is also decorated with a inlay pattern and the door is fitted with glass. This door opens to access the painted dial.

This painted iron dial features a lunar calendar in the arch. The time ring displays the hours and the five minute markers in an Arabic form. This dial also displays the date of the month calendar and the seconds on subsidiary dials inside the time track. Each of the four spandrel areas are decorated with large floral patterns that are executed in a gilt paint. The hands are steel and well formed.

The time and strike movement is of good quality and is designed to run eight days on a full wind. It is constructed in brass. The teeth in the gear train are deeply cut. It is weight driven. This clock strikes the hours on a cast iron bell.

This clock was made circa 1815. It stands approximately 7 feet 9.5 inches or 93.5 inches tall to the top of the center finial. It is inventory number 217069.
