Waltham Clock Company of Waltham, Massachusetts. Model No. 35 wall clock. 217076.

This Waltham clock is cataloged as the Model No. 35. It was manufactured by the Waltham Clock Company of Waltham, Massachusetts, circa 1905. This is a very difficult model to find. It is seldom seen for sale in the marketplace.

This is a very clean example. The movement is weight-driven, wound with a crank key, and is designed to run eight days on full wind. Like all Waltham-made weight-driven clocks, the quality is outstanding. It features heavy brass plates, a deadbeat escapement, and maintaining or retaining power. The front plate is die-stamped with the Maker’s name, “Waltham Clock Co. U.S. A.” It is also numbered “1333” on the upper left. (Please note that this clock was photographed before we serviced the movement and polished the pendulum bob and weight.) The weight is sleeved in brass and descends along the right side of the case. The pendulum rod is wood and supports the brass bob. The bob is decorated with a ring-turned design of several concentric circles. The motion of this pendulum can be viewed through the large glass door fitted to the front of the case. This case is constructed in mahogany and retains an older finish, if not an original. The painted zinc dial measures 13.25 inches across the outside of the fitted wooden bezel or trim ring. It features Roman-style hour numerals, and the Maker’s name, “Waltham Clock Co.” is written in block lettering inside the time track. The dial is in excellent original condition.

This fine clock measures 42 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 6.5 inches deep.

Inventory number 217076.

The Waltham Clock and Waltham Watch Companies, in their various forms, have been synonymous with quality timepieces. The Company was first established in Waltham, Massachusetts, in January of 1897 as the Waltham Clock Company. Their products, known for their excellent quality, included hall, shelf, and then wall clocks. In 1913, they merged with the watchmaking giant Waltham Watch, but continued to produce clocks under the Waltham Clock name until 1923, when the name was changed to the Waltham Watch and Clock Company. In 1925, the name was changed again to the Waltham Watch Co. The production of pendulum clocks is reported to have ceased around 1930.
