Waterbury Clock Company Drop Octagon wall clock. Rosewood case, 8 Inch dial. 215075.
This is a nice, clean example of a Waterbury school clock. This wall clock case is constructed of rosewood. Rosewood is an exotic wood that grows in a foreign land. As a result, compared to the standard oak version, this example would have been more expensive and most likely used in an office or parlor in someone's home. The brass dial bezel is fitted with glass. This tin dial measures 8 inches in diameter. The painted decoration features the Maker's trademark just above the center arbor; the Company name is under the minute ring, and Roman figures mark the hours. The lower section of the case features a door. The glass is painted-decorated from the back. Gilt rings frame an opening that allows one to view the pendulum's motion when this clock is running. Open this door, and one can gain access to the pendulum for time adjustments. You will also see the Maker's setup label pasted onto the backboard. It is in excellent condition. The movement is made of brass and die-stamped by the Maker on the front plate. It is spring wound and is designed to run eight days fully wound.
This clock was made circa 1910 and originally sold for $4.90.
The case measures approximately 19 inches long.
