Winterhälder & Hoffmier Sch. Quarter Striking Bracket Clock. 214095.

This solid oak case bracket clock was made by Winterhälder & Hoffmier in Germany circa 1890. The backplate of the movement is signed with their trademark “W&H / Sch.” It is good quality throughout and strikes the quarter hours having only two trains.

This oak case retains an excellent finish and stands up on four applied wooden pad feet. It is an architectural design and is fitted with a number of applied carved panels and fluted columns. The panels are carved in a floral theme. The front door is trimmed in brass. It is fitted with beveled glass. It opens to access the brass dial.

This dial is in excellent condition. This brass dial is formatted with applied brass spandrels and a silvered chapter ring. The center is treated with a matte finish. The rear door provides access to the movement. This door is fitted with a pierced brass screen and backed in red silk. This allows the sound of the strike train to escape the case.

This German-made movement is spring powered and designed to run for eight-days. Two large brass plates support the gearing. It is designed to strike the quarter hours with two hammers on two gongs. This is often referred to as a “Bim / Bam” striking sequence.

This clock measures approximately 17.5 inches tall. It is 11.5 wide and 7.5 inches deep at the upper molding.

This clock was made circa 1890.
