Sylvester Wheaton Talbot of Dedham, Massachusetts.

Sylvester Wheaton Talbot was born in Dighton, Massachusetts, on August 6, 1799, and died while on a trip in Richmond, Virginia, on April 19, 1847. His body was returned to Dedham, where he is buried in the Old Village Cemetery. His parents were Joseph Talbot III and Lydia Wheaton Talbot. To whom Sylvester apprenticed has yet to be discovered. He worked on Washington Street opposite Bryant's grocery store in Dedham beginning in 1818 and was listed as a clockmaker, watchmaker, and jeweler for the next 29 years. He had a fine reputation as an expert in his profession. It is recorded that a large clock dial mounted on his building faced the street. In 1859, this clock and its dial were given to the Ames School. On June 2, 1828, he married Margaret Guild in Dedham. They may have had several children. One son, Henry Sylvester, was born August 15, 1836, in Dedham. He became an engraver and later a well-known marine painter.
