Brewster & Ingraham Gallery Timepiece. This is a wall clock. JJ-272.

The Brewster & Ingrahams firm in Bristol, Connecticut, manufactured this beautiful 8-day gallery wall timepiece.

The mahogany case is nicely formed with deep moldings and an older finish. The front of the case is fitted with a convex piece of clear glass that protects the dial. This glass appears to be a later replacement.

This wooden dial is also a slightly convex form. The painted surface is in fine original condition. The Brewster & Ingrahams name is signed on the dial, “Brewster & Ingrahams / Bristol, Ct. U S.” The time ring is formatted with large Roman-style hour numerals located just inside the segmented minute ring. Steel open spade hands display the time.

The movement is brass. It is an “East-West” time-only design having a ribbed front plate. This process provides a higher level of rigidity. This front plate is also die-stamped on the lower right with the Maker's name. This movement is powered by a large brass coil spring. The pendulum is mounted to and hangs from the case.

The Clockmaker’s label is pasted inside the case onto the backboard. It is in excellent original condition.

This clock measures approximately 14 inches across the back of the case and is 3 inches deep. The wooden painted dial is 9 inches in diameter.

This fine example was made circa 1852-1856.
