A Tall Case Clock of Pennsylvania origin.
This nicely proportioned walnut cased clock stands on four flared French feet. These transition smoothly up and into the base section. The base is constructed with inset fluted quarter columns on the front corners. These terminate in turned wooden quarter capitals. The front panel is line inlaid. The waist section is long and narrow. It is fitted with simply shaped door that is trimmed with a molded edge. The sides of the case also feature share the fluted quarter column construction found in the corners of the base. The bonnet is a swan's neck form. The arches are nicely formed and exhibit good height. Please note the use of inlaid stars in place of rosettes. This is a nice decorative detail. These arches center an applied key which supports a single brass ball and spike finial. Fully turned bonnet columns flank the arched glazed door. This door opens to a painted iron dial. This dial features a moon phase or lunar calendar in the arch. This dial displays hours, minutes and seconds in the traditional manner. The movement is constructed in brass and is designed to run for an eight day duration. It will strike each hour on a cast iron bell mounted above the movement.
This clock was made circa 1815 and stands approximately 7 feet 8 inches tall to the top of the brass finial. This clock is inventory number 22271.
