F. W & R. King of Baltimore, Maryland. A wall Barometer. 212084.

This very unusual American-made barometer is signed by the Makers Frederick W. and Richard King. They are listed as working at 33 South Street and 226 Baltimore Street in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1851 to 1875.

The case, meticulously constructed in mahogany, is a testament to the craftsmanship of the makers. Its unique presentation, stepping back to the wall from three distinctive levels, is a striking feature. The shaping of the case, designed to enhance its depth, is a departure from the standard stick format of the day. The skillfully engraved brass scales, silvered and filled with black for excellent contrast and readability, are another example of meticulous craftsmanship. The upper portion houses the barometer, fitted with a separate scale on each side for interpreting level changes. The middle section features a long thermometer.

This instrument measures approximately 43 inches in length.
