New Haven Clock Company New Haven, Connecticut. The Braddock Calendar wall clock. 224104.
This is an excellent example and is one of my favorite schoolhouse clock models. The New Haven Clock Company of New Haven, Connecticut, made this attractive wall clock. This model is cataloged as the “Braddock” Calendar and appears in the 1900 New Haven catalogs. This fine example features a solid oak case. The oak selected for this example features an unusually tight grain pattern. The original finish presents areas of wear, so the case color varies. I love this “experienced” coloring. The design of this case is more complex than the standard schoolhouse example. The front surfaces of the case are decorated with applied moldings. This treatment gives this model a distinctive appearance. It also features transitional ears between the case’s head and drop portion.
The brass dial bezel is fitted with glass and opens to access the 12-inch diameter paper dial, which is applied to a tin pan. “MADE BY THE NEW HAVEN CLOCK CO., NEW HAVEN CONN., U.S.A.” is printed at the bottom of the dial. A segmented minute ring separates the calendar dates, 1-31, from the Roman-style hour numerals. “NEW HAVEN, U.S.A.” is printed above the center arbor. Spade-shaped hands will display the time. The red hand indicates the appropriate calendar day.
The eight-day spring-powered brass time-only movement is die-stamped on the front plate with the Maker’s trademark. The decorative pendulum bob is covered in brass and can be viewed through the glass door in the lower section of the front of the case. “REGULATOR” decorates this glass.
The case is slightly oversized, measuring 27 inches in length.

This clock is sold fully serviced and in excellent working order. The movement has been completely disassembled and cleaned. Areas of wear are addressed while the movement is rebuilt. The movement is then lubricated and tested to ensure its performance.
The New Haven Clock Company of New Haven, Connecticut, made and sold clocks for over 100 years. The history of this business is largely tied to the case maker Chauncey Jerome and to the movement maker Hiram Camp. The New Haven Clock Company was organized in 1853. This first phase of the company’s business was to manufacture movements. These were sold to Chauncey Jerome. In 1856, the New Haven Clock Company took over the Jerome manufacturing operation and produced their first complete clocks. These clocks were og clocks.
