Parkinson & Fordsham / Royal Exchange / London. A small English mantel clock.

This small English made mantel clock is quite charming. The presentation suggests a clock of high quality.

The case is veneered in rosewood and measures just under 10 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep. The top and two side panels are fitted with bevelled glass. These allow good visual access to the mechanism. Both doors, front and back, are fitted with glass as well. The front door accesses the 4.5 inch square dial. This is skillfully engraved and treated with a silver wash. The time ring measures approximately 3.25 inches in diameter. The dial is signed by the Maker and Retailer, ‘PARKINSON & FRODSHAM / ROYAL EXCHANGE / LONDON.” The back door opens to access the movement and pendulum. The movement features heavy brass plates. The back plate is engraved with the same information found on the front of the dial. This time only movement is powered by a spring and a chain driven fusee. It is designed to run eight days. The escapement is an anchor recoil design. It is very good quality.
